Early Half Dollars
1794 50C O-101a, T-7, High R.3, VG8 NGC. Tompkins Die State 1/5. Dusky, steel-gray toning with charcoal-gray overtones disguise the well-worn devices, which fortunately show a thin outline of silver around most of the raised motifs to balance the aged patina. A glass reveals some expected small marks and abrasions, with a short, straight strike-through on either side of Liberty's head. The central elements show considerable wear, while the perimeters are sharper with nearly full dentils, date, legends, and stars.
