Early Half Dollars
1794 50C O-101a, T-7, High R.3, VG10 NGC. Tompkins Die State 1/5. With exception of the rim above stars 12 to 14 (lowered by adjustment marks now mostly eliminated by wear), all of the obverse devices are outlined and the date is strong. Short adjustment marks remain in the recesses of Liberty's central hair strands. The reverse is a few points better, sharp at the wreath and outward, but less sharp at the eagle's head and body. Iridescent toning displays violet, blue, and gold hues, perhaps aided by an old wipe, but not important given the worn state of this still-collectible example.
