Bust Half Dollars
1827 50C Square Base 2, O-106, R.2, MS65 NGC. Softly lustrous beneath a rich layer of lavender, blue, and orange-gold toning, the hair and cap are razor-sharp and the reverse motifs are bold. Stars 1 to 5 and star 8 lack complete central definition, but they are frequently flat for the variety. The multicolor eye appeal more than atones. The Condition Census for O-106 tops out at MS65 in both the Parsley and Herrman references, with just one other O-106 reaching the full Gem grade, and so the present coin is seemingly tied at the top of the Census for the variety (7/31).
