Reeded Edge Half Dollars
1836 50C Reeded Edge, GR-1, R.2, MS63 NGC. The 1836 Reeded Edge half dollar is a famous key in the series. Reportedly 1,200+ coins were struck, and these were the first circulating United States coins manufactured using a steam powered press. Graham writes: "You will need to be extremely patient to find a nice original coin, as many have been cleaned or mishandled, especially in the circulated grades."
This is a totally original Select example that qualifies for the low end of the Condition Census. It has mixed cobalt-blue, violet, and gold patina over the entirety of each side. The design elements are well-struck with trifle softness on the highest points of the eagle's wing and left talons. Census: 6 in 63, 7 finer (7/17).
