Gold Dollars
1849-C G$1 Closed Wreath AU58 PCGS. Variety 1. The debut gold dollar from the Charlotte Mint is a rarity in Mint State, and such pieces frequently lack the eye appeal of the present near-Mint coin. Partially prooflike fields and bold design elements render pleasant aesthetics despite slight high-point friction and a few light marks. The Charlotte Mint accomplished a mintage of 11,634 coins in 1849, including the extremely rare Open Wreath variety. Gold dollar production declined the following year to fewer than 7,000 coins. Population: 14 in 58, 22 finer (7/17).
