Gold Dollars
1855-O G$1 MS61 PCGS. Variety 2. Lapped reverse, as often seen. There is only one Type Two gold dollar issue struck at the New Orleans Mint: the 1855-O. This is also the most popular and final gold dollar from the Louisiana branch mint. Only a few hundred examples survive from a mintage of 55,000 coins, however. Perhaps 50 or so are in Uncirculated condition. Brightly lustrous surfaces feature scattered wispy marks. Strong detail on the headdress and lower wreath. Population: 14 in 61, 26 finer (7/17).
