Liberty Quarter Eagles
1861 $2 1/2 New Reverse, Type Two, MS65+ PCGS. CAC. Two different hub types were used to manufacture quarter eagle dies in 1861, differentiated most readily by the size of the arrowheads and the closeness of the fletchings to the eagle's left (facing) talons. This high-end Gem example of the Type Two issue displays sharp motifs and frosty wheat-gold mint luster. A tiny mark below star 5 appears to be all that limits the grade. Population: 36 in 65 (1 in 65+), 13 finer. CAC: 7 in 65, 3 finer (7/17).
