Early Half Eagles
1813 $5 BD-2, R.4, AU50 NGC. Bass-Dannreuther Die State d/b, lightly cracked and clashed. BD-2 is the scarcer 1813 half eagle variety, easily identified by the first S in STATES being positioned directly above the E in E PLURIBUS UNUM. This AU coin shows equal amounts of high-point wear and field luster amid bright straw-gold patina. Scattered light marks are not distracting. Strike weakness is seen on the eagle's left (facing) wing as usual.
