Liberty Double Eagles
1852-O $20 AU53 PCGS. Variety 1. Since there was no operating federal Mint in San Francisco in 1852, California bullion was shipped to the Philadelphia and New Orleans facilities for double eagle production. This is an originally toned and well-preserved example of the New Orleans mintage, which totaled 190,000 pieces. Remarkably few marks exist on the greenish-gold surfaces, with glimpses of reflective mint luster among the motifs.
