Liberty Double Eagles
1854 $20 Large Date AU58 NGC. CAC. The mintage of the 1854 Large Date double eagle is unknown, but the issue is much scarcer than its Small Date counterpart. The date logotype was the same one used on silver dollars from this year. Probably only 10% or so of the mintage used this larger date punch. The present coin is well-detailed, showing only the slightest signs of circulation. The pleasing surfaces are light yellow-gold, with orange highlights, and bright mint luster. Census: 20 in 58 (1 in 58+), 10 finer. CAC: 6 in 58, 2 finer (7/17).
Ex: Houston Signature (Heritage, 12/2010), lot 4606.
