Liberty Double Eagles
1889-CC $20 MS60 PCGS. Variety 1-A. Only one variety is identified for the 1889-CC double eagle, although others may exist. After a three-year intermission, the Carson City Mint began coinage production again in the last quarter of 1889, following necessary repairs to the equipment that sat idle since the end of 1885. Once the coinage presses were again operational, 30,945 double eagles were minted at the Nevada facility. The only other coins struck there in 1889 were 350,000 silver dollars, for a total production of less than $1 million. This Mint State representative has dusky high-point toning over its frosty yellow surfaces with scattered, mostly inconsequential marks.
