Struck to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase, this popular gold commemorative was issued with two obverses, one depicting Thomas Jefferson (president at the time of the purchase) and the other recently assassinated President William McKinley. This Plus-graded Superb Gem represents the Jefferson variant, with sharply detailed design elements and impeccably preserved lustrous surfaces. PCGS has graded no numerically finer examples (7/17).
