1853 $20 Assay Office Twenty Dollar, 900 Thous., AU55 PCGS. K-18, R.2. This twenty dollar issue by the United States Assay Office forms a denomination-and-fineness bridge to the first double eagles of the San Francisco Mint, which were struck in 1854. Orange-kissed yellow-gold surfaces remain luminous despite light wear. The surfaces are moderately abraded, including reed marks below the free end of the obverse ribbon.
