Large Cents
1793 1C Chain, AMERICA, Periods, S-4, B-5, High R.3, VF25 PCGS. Our EAC grade: sharpness of VF25, net Fine 15. The small periods following the date and LIBERTY immediately identify this popular variety that carries its own listing in the Guide Book, adding additional demand. As usual for the Chain cents, the reverse is considerably sharper than the obverse, with a bold chain and lettering. A well-centered impression with a thin but complete border on each side. A small arc of maroon patina is evident on the reverse. A glass will reveal slight roughness on the intermingled steel-brown and tan surfaces.
Purchased from Butternut. Ex: McLaughlin and Robinson (Sale 4229, 2/1987), lot 198; COL Steven Ellsworth.
