Three Dollar Gold Pieces
1855-S $3 VF35 NGC. Coppery-gold patination displays whispers of lavender and purple along the borders. The design elements retain relatively sharp definition, though portions of Liberty's hair and some of the reverse leaves lack central detail. The surfaces are quite clean, revealing just a few minute marks on the cheek, in the right obverse field, and on the first 5 of the date. Light greenish spots are visible in the upper loops of the 3 and the 8.
Ex: Central States Signature (Heritage, 4/2006), lot 2564.
