Liberty Half Eagles
1881-CC $5 XF45 NGC. Variety 1-A. The Carson City Mint coined only 13,886 half eagles in 1881, a production down from more than 51,000 pieces the year before. The 1881-CC five circulated extensively and is scarce today in all grades. Uncirculated examples are prohibitively rare. This Choice XF representative displays smooth surfaces and pleasing olive-gold patina with coppery accents in the protected regions. Light wear is most easily seen on the eagle's neck feathers. Census: 15 in 45, 43 finer (7/17).
