Liberty Double Eagles
1856-S $20 AU58 PCGS. Before the era of modern shipwreck finds, the 1856-S Liberty double eagle was almost always found in circulated grades, but more than a thousand examples were recovered from the wreck of the S.S. Central America alone, making the 1856-S one of the most available Type One issues in high grade. This attractive near-Mint specimen offers sharply detailed design elements, with just a trace of wear, and lightly abraded orange-gold surfaces that retain much original mint luster. Population: 71 in 58 (1 in 58+), 54 finer (8/17).
