Holtzhey, bust r., in frock coat and long hair, rev. Hope seated, holding scales and sword, an anchor and the VOC monogram of the Dutch East India Company at her side, date in exergue, SPES MEDIORVM TEMPORVM, 28mm. (Erlanger 1783; vL 178), mint state
Van Imhoff was a colonial administrator for the Dutch East India Company (VOC). He was Governor of Ceylon (1736- 1740) and Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies (1743-1750), dying in office. His visit to the Cape Colony was not a great success and he found that as the Dutch settlers penetrated further into the interior, they lost contact with the VOC.
