Commemorative Medals, USA, General Motors, 25th Anniversary, silver-plated medal, 1933, by Norman Bel Geddes (1893–1958) and Rene Paul Chambellan (1893-1955), a bullet-like speeding car, a tall wing rises from its centre, legend in sunken band, TO THE ADVANCEMENT OF – MOTOR TRANSPORTATION, rev. a streamlined piston, legend and dates, 76mm. (Albrecht* p. 59), usual light rubbing to high spots, extremely fine
The medal is a superb example of the 'Streamlined' style that dominated architecture and design in America from the late 1920s to the end of the 1930s. The medal was first seen at the Century of Progress International Exposition [The Chicago World's Fair, 1933-1934]. Norman Bel Geddes is better known for another project for General Motors, the Futurama Exhibition at the 1939 New York World's Fair.
