The Amicable Society or Amicable Contributionship of London was the first company established for the insurance of houses against loss by fire. It was commonly known as The Hand in Hand. The Philadelphia Contributionship, founded as a mutual insurance company by Benjamin Franklin in 1752, was modelled on the Amicable Society. (200-300 GBP)
