Gustav III was assassinated at a masked ball at the Royal Opera House, Stockholm, on 16 March 1792; shot by Jacob Johan Anckarström as part of a conspiracy of noblemen. He died of infections in the wound on 29 March. Anckarström, an army officer, was convicted and executed for regicide. (140-160 GBP)
