John III Ducas (Vatatzes). Emperor of Nicaea, 1222-1254. BI Trachy (28mm, 2.19 g, 6h). Type B. Thessalonica mint. Struck 1246-1248/9?. Half-length facing bust of St. Michael the Archangel, holding spear and shield / John enthroned facing, holding cross-tipped scepter and akakia; wing to left. DOC 4; SB 2124. Fine/VF, green and brown patina, a couple of flan splits.
