From at least the 1780s there was a boarding school at Brompton House. By 1787 the proprietor was Mrs Sarah Hardinge and by 1800 it was being run by a Miss Hearne. The school survived until at least the 1880s but the House was destroyed by fire prior to the outbreak of World War I
