Sicily, Syracuse AR Tetradrachm. Second Democracy, circa 450-440 BC. Charioteer, holding kentron and reins, driving slow quadriga right; Nike flying to right above, crowning horses, ketos in exergue / Head of Arethusa right, wearing earring, necklace and headband; ΣΥRAΚΟΣΙΟΝ and four dolphins around. Boehringer 554 (V282/R385); SNG ANS 180 (same obverse die); Rizzo plate 37, 13 (same obverse die). 17.35g, 26mm, 2h.

Extremely Fine; very difficult to find in this grade. Struck from dies of wonderful style on sound metal. Rare.
