National Bank of Egypt, obverse archival photograph for 100 piastres, 10 August 1898, black and white, Sphinx at top left 'value in Arabic' at top right, value at centre and low left(Pick unlisted), This is the earliest recorded example of a design for an Egyptian banknote. At this point, there was no such thing as an Egyptian Pound, so all denominations were in Piastres. This design is clearly inspired by English White £5 notes, replacing the vignette of Britannia with the Sphinx. Nothing like it was used on the issued notes..

Estimate: £1,000.00 - £1,200.00
