Egyptian Government Currency Note, obverse (2) and reverse (2) archival photos showing designs for 5 piastres, 1920, serial number A/B 0000000, black and white, value at centre and corners, reverse palm trees at centre, value at left and right(Pick 162A for type), These are some of the most interesting designs in this group because they are some of the few that made it all the way to production before being scrapped. Several specimen notes exist with one of these designs. This is the final production version, from which several specimens were made. However, the note was not printed, which is especially interesting since it is shown as being approved in this photograph. Also present here is a revised design with a later date, the only significant changes being that the central 5 was changed to an Arabic numeral, while the lower two were changed to western numerals. The Title was also changed into Arabic. Perhaps there was a political reason for the note never being issued, which may help explain the changes in language on the designs (4).
Estimate: £600.00 - £800.00
