Constantine IV. Solidus; Constantine IV; 668-685 AD. Ravenna, c. 673-4 AD, Solidus, 4.30g. MIB-54, Sear-1221, not in DO. Obv: d N CONST - ANTINI Helmeted, frontal bust holding spear over shoulder and shield decorated with horseman. Rx: VICTORA (sic) - A - VGU I: Cross potent on three steps between facing standing figures of Heraclius (on l.) and Tiberius (on r.); CONOB in exergue. This coin is extremely sharp and well struck. Its description fits MIB 54 which would date it from 668-674 AD, but because of its exceptional style it looks more like MIB 55 without the date, so was probably struck in 673-674 AD. Only three examples of this coin are recorded, none as good as this. Coins of Ravenna are extremely rare making this a very important coin in the eastern Christian Roman issues. MS
