IMP CLAVDIVS P F AVG, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Claudius II right / VICTORI-A-E GOTHIC, two captives seated at base of trophy. Cf. RIC 242; RIC V/1 online, temp. 977. Scarce and popular type. Some flan flaws and roughness. Green patina with sandy deposits. Very fine.
The reverse of this coin celebrates Claudius II's Gothic Victories, and was struck the year he succumbed to the plaque that ravaged his soldiers during the Gothic campaigns.
