PHILIPPINES. 8 Reales, ND (Decree of December 20, 1834, suppressed March 31, 1837 (By Decree of February 1, 1836)). PCGS VF-30 Secure Holder.
KM-108; Basso-43; PNM#6-212; PNM#16-190; Cacho-Type IX CS-004; Lopez-Chavez Yriarte-Type IV group A; Gil-Crown variety 5-4-1-II (1835). Type VI countermark, Crowned Y.II. within circle. On an 1834-IJ Santiago, Chile Peso. Countermark well applied with excellent definition of the details. Interesting to note that on the opposing side of the countermark on the reverse in the plume of smoke of the volcano are remnants of anvil damage, a faint incuse mirror image of an earlier "F.7.0" punch with 5-4-!(2) pearl sequence. For a similar example with this anvil damage see our NYINC 2015 auction where we sold the Ray Czahor collection of Philippines countermarks and overstrikes lot # 1373 and lot # 4198. The key difference between the two examples in Ray Czahor's collection and the present example is that the present example is a "Y.II." on the obverse with "F.7.0" anvil damage on the reverse while the ones in Ray's collection had the same "F.7.0" countermark that also caused the anvil damage. This is quite an interesting example sure to excite even the most sophisticated of Philippines collectors. A lovely wholesome example with attractive tone. Countermark XF Details, host coin PCGS VF-30 Secure Holder.

Estimate: $400.00- $600.00
