Zaydî Imams
al-Mahdî Ahmad ibn al-Husayn, 646-655 H./1248-1257 AD Mahdawî dirham 649 H., Muda' recut over Sa'da. Lowick cf. 1983 no. 21 für Sa'da (different obv. die). 1.96 g.; Extremely rare and interesting Good very fine

In 649 H. the Rasûlid al-Muzaffar handed over the region West of San'â to the imam in order to win his support against two uncles who had arrived in the Yemen to make claims for the heritage of his father, who had been murdered in 647 H. Khulab, the mint of the following coin, was among those places and Birâsh was subsequently bought by the Mahdî for 520.000 Mahdawî dirhams (Ghâyat al-amânî I p. 436, Lowick 1983 p. 133). According to the present die alteration it seems that the mint of Sa'da made a tour through the newly gained region and silver was struck in Muda', Thulâ and al-Jâhilî in 649 H.
