USA (Philadelphia mint), quarter dollar Standing Liberty, 1916, encapsulated NGC VG 10. KM-141. The first year and a key date for the Standing Liberty quarter series. The entire mintage of just 52,000 coins was struck in the last two weeks of 1916 and almost all entered into circulation. The type is characterized by the bare breast on Liberty as well as the absence of three stars below the eagle on the reverse. In 1917, the design was changed by adding chainmail to Liberty's chest and three stars below the eagle. This is a modestly circulated piece with no major marks, a well-centered strike and an overall untoned silver color. NGC #4489144-001
($3500-5000)
