English copperplate engraving by Ogilby entitled "Pagus Hispanorum in Florida" (1671) showing a scene of St. Augustine, hand colored. 15-3/4" x 18-1/2" This large, colorized engraving by John Ogilby from his work "America: Being the Latest, and Most Accurate Description of the New World" presents a rather dramatized view of St. Augustine, one of the oldest settlements in North America. The "mountains" of Florida are seen in the background (an added embellishment) while the port of St. Augustine is in the foreground. Good condition, minor edge marks, few archival tape repairs on reverse, dealer pencil annotation on obverse.
