Large Cents
1837 1C Head of 1838, N-11, R.1, MS66 Brown NGC. Stars 9-11 are recut, and a pair of lengthy die cracks subdivide the reverse into disparate segments, including a diagnostic break tangent to the A in STATES that does not terminate until crossing the wreath and first A in AMERICA to reach the opposite edge. Bold die clashing confirms a late state of the dies. Glossy reddish-brown color yields to blue overtones that congregate within the devices and creep into the smooth, virtually unmarked fields. Our EAC grade MS60.
