Large Cents
1853 1C N-25, R.1, MS65 Red NGC. The base of the 1 in the date is recut, and a mint-made spike from the berry left of the C in CENT confirms the variety. A lustrous pumpkin-orange Gem with a nearly unabraded obverse and a crisp strike on the portrait. The stars have generally soft centrils, but the reverse legends and wreath are bold. A bit of olive-green color surrounds selected border areas and a bit of dark porosity over the T of STATES is all that limits the grade. Our EAC grade MS62.
