1652 3PENCE Pine Tree Threepence, No Pellets at Trunk, MS62 NGC. Noe-36, W-640, Salmon 2-B, R.4. 16 gr. Usual early die state. The strike is sharp and even with little of the "wave" effect in the planchet from the rocker press that is often seen on the larger denominations. The reverse is fairly well-centered with all legends intact. The obverse is off-center toward 8 o'clock with portions of HVSETS off the flan. The planchet is fairly circular. Each side of this piece is satiny and displays deep gunmetal-gray toning with no obvious distractions.
All varieties included, NGC and PCGS combined list only nine Mint State grading events of a Pine Tree threepence, of which only three or four are No Pellets coins. Our most recent previous auction appearance of an Uncirculated Noe-36 coin was in lot 5614 of the January 2015 FUN Signature sale, where the Partrick MS64 NGC example garnered nearly $39,000. Listed on page 41 of the 2018 Guide Book.
