Proof Three Cent Nickels
1865 3CN PR66 Cameo PCGS Secure. CAC. The date is doubled, corresponding to Breen's variety 2-B. After the proof-only 1877, this first-year three cent nickel is the most challenging issue in the series to locate in proof format. An estimated 500 proofs were produced, and about half of the surviving population demonstrates Cameo contrast. This gorgeous Premium Gem is marvelously contrasted with crisp black-and-white surfaces. Three die lines appear near STA. Population: 33 in 66 Cameo, 16 finer, including Deep Cameo. CAC: 14 in 66, 2 finer (9/17).
