Early Half Dimes
1796 H10C LIKERTY, V-1, LM-1, R.3, VF30 NGC. A leaftip touches the final A in AMERICA, while the B in LIBERTY is open at the top and bottom loops to vaguely resemble a K. Collectors have long liked the moniker LIKERTY, so the name sticks for the LM-1 variety. Moderate wear on Liberty's upper hair and shoulder and smoothness at the eagle's breast and leg determine the assigned grade. Still, this example is free of adjustment marks and retains bits of mint luster on both sides. A pair of minor dimplelike indents on the obverse -- one on the neck, another near star 14 -- plus a third on the reverse near the right wing shoulder may be planchet-related defects, and are altogether non-distracting.
