Early Half Dimes
1797 H10C 16 Stars, V-4, LM-2, R.4, AU50 PCGS. CAC. This 16 Stars obverse variety (LM-2) shows the leaf close to the first T in STATES. These coins are always collector favorites. At a certain point Mint officials recognized the futility of attempting to represent every new state in the Union with star. This was the highest number of stars reached before reverting to 13 stars for the original colonies. Golden-gray tones cover this lightly circulated early half dime. Abundant detail remains, though the centers are slightly soft. Seldom found so blatantly original.
