Proof Seated Half Dollars
1883 50C PR67 Cameo PCGS. CAC. After the beginning of Morgan dollar production in 1878, mintages of smaller denomination coins dropped dramatically. For most silver issues from 1878 through 1891, business strikes are elusive, placing extra demand on the surviving proofs. One such piece is this amazing Superb Gem Cameo proof 1883 half dollar. Both sides feature highly lustrous and lightly toned design motifs framed by deeply mirrored fields. The obverse has light gold at the centers with peripheral blue and iridescent toning, while the reverse is evenly toned in delicate champagne. An impressive example of the coiner's art. Population: 4 in 67 Cameo, 0 finer; 1 in 67 Deep Cameo, 0 finer. CAC: 3 in 67, 0 finer (9/17).
