Early Dollars
1802/1 $1 Narrow Date, B-4, BB-232, R.3, XF40 PCGS. Bowers Die State II. Traces of prooflikeness remain at the margins, where royal-blue and reddish-gold shades intermingle with the overall silver-gray patina. Struck from a middle state of the obverse die, with an unusual, short die crack through the right side of the bust to near star 13. Noticeably sharp definition exists on the devices despite 20 points of wear -- the hair detail, field stars, and clouds are particularly well-defined. Light field abrasions are small and unobtrusive. This is a sharp and attractive example of the overdate, pleasingly toned.
