Proof Trade Dollars
1873 T$1 PR64 Cameo PCGS. CAC. Arguably the rarest date in the entire regular Trade dollar series (1873-1883), the 865-piece mintage was generally unpopular with the public and many proofs were spent with no perceived numismatic value. The low survivorship is reflected in today's certified populations in all grades. This Choice Cameo example is better-preserved than most, with blue and russet toning at the margins and largely brilliant interiors. Frosted motifs contrast with the mirrored fields that show a few delicate lines but no other distractions. The strike is sharp except for minor weakness at the eagle's leg. Population: 14 in 64 (2 in 64+) Cameo, 2 finer. CAC: 10 in 64, 1 finer (9/17).
