1893-O $1 MS64 PCGS. The 1893-S gets most of the publicity, but its O-mint counterpart is a notably elusive issue in its own right, scarce at the Choice grade level and extremely rare any finer. This MS64 example displays satiny luster beneath deep pewter-gray toning that yields sun-gold, amber, and ocean-blue hues around the peripheries. Light, scattered abrasions limit the grade, but none are individually noteworthy beneath the thick patina. The eagle's breast and the hair above Liberty's ear show moderate striking weakness, not unusual for this poorly produced New Orleans issue. PCGS has seen only six numerically finer submissions (9/17).
