Classic Quarter Eagles
1838-C $2 1/2 AU55 PCGS. Variety 20, R.3. The only known die pair for the 1838-dated Charlotte quarter eagles, used to coin a total of 7,880 pieces. This piece represents the first year of U.S. Mint operations at Charlotte, North Carolina, and the first of just two Classic Head quarter eagles struck at that facility. This sharply struck green-gold example has trivial marks on each side that are consistent with the grade. The C-mintmark on the obverse is doubled.
