Liberty Quarter Eagles
1852-C $2 1/2 MS61 PCGS. Variety 1. Fewer than 165 1852-C quarter eagles are extant, according to specialist Doug Winter, and Mint State pieces are "excessively rare." PCGS reports eight Uncirculated examples, including possible resubmissions (8/17). This MS61 coin is only the second Uncirculated piece we have handled in the past five years. Recently, a PCGS coin in this grade garnered nearly $13,000 (Heritage, 1/2016). The present coin is bright yellow-gold with some subtle reflectivity in the reverse fields. Strike weakness on the eagle's leg and the left edge of the shield is normal for the issue. Scattered light abrasions determine the grade. Population: 6 in 61, 2 finer (8/17).
