Liberty Half Eagles
1893 $5 MS67 NGC. The 1893 half eagle was struck in a prodigious quantity exceeding 1.5 million coins, and fortunately, there are a few high-grade, well-made survivors today, although not as many as the large mintage would lead one to believe. This Superb Gem displays full mint bloom throughout the orange-gold surfaces on each side, accompanied by an impeccable strike and a complete lack of mentionable distractions. This piece would make an impressive type set candidate. The top three coins in the Condition Census are this example and two MS68 pieces, one each reported by PCGS and NGC (9/17).
