1880 $1 Metric Dollar, Judd-1650, Pollock-1850, Low R.7, PR65 Cameo NGC. Metric dollar pattern designed by George Morgan, featuring a bland, rarely seen head of Liberty. Her hair is brushed back, and fastened in a bun with a wide ribbon at the top of the head. The reverse is the standard Metric dollar design with DEO EST GLORIA featured prominently above the composition in the center. Struck in aluminum with a reeded edge. Examples were struck in silver or goloid, copper, and aluminum. Only a half dozen pieces are known in aluminum today. This is a bright, unoxidized piece that shows dramatic field-device contrast on each side. The surfaces also show numerous cracks that appear to have been created from excessive striking pressure. Among the finest known of this aluminum rarity.
