Early Half Dollars
1807 50C Draped Bust, O-109a, T-2, R.3, AU53 PCGS. Both dies of the 1807 O-109 family are plagued by cracks and other failures. The obverse has breaks running from the date left through the stars, from the rim through most of LIBERTY, and through the date and bust. Both sides have weak centers due to incipient die failure. The reverse die crack distinguishing O-109a from O-109 can just be seen from the tip of the left wing to the first T of STATES. These must be graded by the struck-up detail, which shows this to be a well-preserved AU rather than the worn coin it may at first appear to be.
