Bust Half Dollars
1823 50C O-106, R.3, AU58 PCGS. The 3 in the date does not yet show the tampering that appears in later states, when Mint officials attempted to strengthen the link between the upper and lower portions of the digit. The first vertical in the fifth shield stripe is disconnected from the border. Lustrous, minimally toned centers merge with eye-catching multicolor patina around the margins. Small abrasions do not distract.
