Seated Half Dollars
1876-S 50C Open Bud, Very Small S, WB-102, Die Pair 18, R.4, MS65 NGC. Stars 3-4 and 11-13 are recut, a die lump occurs in the shield above Y, the area under Liberty's chin is unfinished, and the Very Small S mintmark is repunched. This incredible, fully struck Gem survivor was one of 4.5 million half dollars struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1876. It enjoys frosty luster and thin daubs tan-gold patina over mostly brilliant surfaces. Scattered grazes are superficial and of little import. Census (all varieties): 8 in 65, 5 finer (9/17).
