Seated Half Dollars
1879 50C Closed Bud, WB-102, MS65 PCGS. The return of mass quantities of United States half dollars previously sent abroad reduced demand for new coinage production. Resources were also being diverted toward the production of Morgan dollars. Consequently, only 4,800 pieces were struck in 1879. Rainbow hues color the rims, leaving the centers thickly frosted and untoned. Devices are fully struck throughout and prooflike contrast is readily apparent.
